When Trish established “The Waratah” stud many moons ago, she bought a line of heifers from our Minlacowie stud. This line bred well and helped shape the fabulous mob of females that sold so well when she dispersed.

Upon purchasing land at Mt Jagger, Trish wished to run some top Poll Hereford cattle on it. One of the best advertisements for our stud is to have our bloodlines performing across the country. I set out to put together a line of cow families, which had stood out in our stud spanning the last 55 years.

At the top of the list would be Jocelyn females dating back to 1959 when the original cow was purchased for 600 guineas. A Jocelyn female H47, I predict will be a “Monarch” cow at Kilkerrin.

Close behind Jocelyn is Fragrant, hailing from Injemira in the 1980’s. This line regularly tops the drop particularly with female progeny. It is hard to beat this line for femininity and cosmetics.

Nikki’s were introduced from the Norolle dispersal in 1995. The original cow had 84 progeny who dominate the show rings and sales across Australia. Our two most famous bulls, Jubilant and Valiant Nick are both out of Nikki cows.

Additional high performing lines include Kerry Maid, Minerva and Cherry Ripe.  Kerry Maid came in from Pallabah and is from a consistently strong bull breeding family. Minerva goes back to Inverary Minerva H20 and Cherry Ripe is another Injemira introduction.

The females from those strong cow families have worked very well for us with Jocelyn H47 becoming a donor cow and leaving us with a string of top females who in turn have produced top calves.
